Discover Balchik

Balchik — the “White City” of the Black Sea — clings to limestone terraces above a turquoise bay, its whitewashed houses cascading down toward a palm-lined promenade.

Founded by Ionian Greeks as Krounoi over 2,600 years ago and later renamed after the boyar Balik, Balchik has been Thracian, Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Bulgarian and Romanian — and every layer left a mark. In the 1930s Queen Marie of Romania fell in love with the town and built her seaside palace and the famous botanical gardens here.
